christmas at the zoo

As the newcomer to this blog, I would just like to make my presence felt with a short rant. Why is it that every year people in Oklahoma act like they've never encountered snow? The cool- "Wwwwwull,-I'm-a-truck-man"-types drive like their motorized bobsled is on fire, seemingly trying to dodge the oncoming white flakies. Hitting too many of these "flakies," of course, would cause irreversible damage to their sa-weet truck. Then, of course you have the hundreds of people who invade wal-mart and other grocery stores as if we're going to be snowed in for a fortnight. All traffic, commerce, and world activity will come to a halt....because there's snow in Oklahoma. Gotta love it. Also, I can't wait to venture to work in the conditions tomorrow with the aforementioned "truck man," who will no doubt be out and about in full force tomorrow.

Aside from dealing with travel in winter conditions, winter is probably my favorite time of the year. Yes, it's cold; but there's just special something in the air that makes it different and enjoyable. Maybe it's the hope of good sledding, hanging out with friends, and..........REVENGE!!! (more on that later)

In conclusion, I know most of us are big music fans. To me, there are some albums that just strike me as "winter" albums. I'm going to list a few of mine. Please feel free to throw in your winter albums as well.

Weezer - Pinkerton
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Fiona Apple - When the Pawn...
Radiohead - Kid A/Amnesiac
Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American (January/February drives to Stillwater back in '02 anyone?)
Sigur Ros - ( )
Hope of the States - The Lost Riots

I'll second you on folks driving habits. I almost got hit in the Greg-got-hit intersection on my way to class tonight. Jerk didn't break until the last second. I had to jump out of the way. Jacked up my shin. But other than that, I likes the snow, sadly, knowing full well it'll be gone by Friday.

People don't behave differently in Columbus, but Ohio weather coverage is the National Enquirer of meteorology. Lot's of end of the world, nuclear winter type rhetoric, as though these people don't deal with the same stuff year after year. Seems to convince them though. I'd think there would be a conflict between "go to" businesses and dramatic weather coverage. Maybe those businesses will eventually do something about it.

I am in love with Fox (local) news. They were talking about snow and Bartlesville. He's a brief transcript...

"Bartlesville residents say this is some of the most snow they've received in a long time. It is clearly cold, as pointed out by Chris."
(Cut to shot of man)
"Yeah it's very very cold."
(Back to Chera)
"In fact it's so cold..."
(Cut to shot of black dog with snow on it's head)
"...This dog doesn't know what to do.
(Back to my love)
"Well we'll make sure to keep our eyes on it."

That's completely true. Fox News rules.

Matt: the Gasperich, I agree concerning the stupidity of Oklahomans when it comes to weather. Every winter I hear the same glop about 'oh i wish we had a white christmas...it'd be so romantic; st. nick hear us' (imagine that in cliche-Dane Cook-feminine-lisp). When it actually does snow, not even a day passes before the citizens whine, 'we have to deal with this cold white stuff? but i need to get out to pottery barn! this is so miserable! i wish God....er, a higher power, would kill me.' Why have we become so fickle even about the temperature?
In other news, tonight's top story: I miss Chera Kimiko. And who's this bloke I see plastered up on billboards everywhere with his face next to hers?

revenge? hah, what are you talking about, hah (shut the hell up!). why would that ever happen in a world? yes, real radioheeed fans are familiar with the nearly religious experience of snowfall and ambient wubwubs. seems like a lot of times we identify a certain cd with a season or with weather or even a time of day (dusk, for instance) probably due to the time/climate in which we first heard it. even more interesting is those cds that lack this nostalgia. is it cause they're not as good or what? now what's this "snow" you speak of? it makes me want to go 20mph on the highway or 80mph on icy curves, but not under any circumstances act in a rational manner. and as for the guy on the billboard? he's the Danny Devito to the Kimiko, like that movie Twins. he represents everything foul about her soul so that she may exist in flawless harmony.

So here's my stories.

Firstly, I was walking to class yesterday and I saw a larger gentlemen non-trad (not Fatty NonTrad but close). So as soon as I saw him I knew...he was gonna fall on his plump ass. I considered changing courses so I wouldn't have to deal with it, but I did not. So sure enough, right as he passed me, he lost it. And I don't mean he slipped, flapped his arms, and fell. No. He went horizontal and landed on his FACE! So he starts spewing profanities and then some stupid fratty says "Oh shit dude! Are you OK!?" I thought to myself...he probably was until we came along staring at him laying on the ground. It was bad.

#2. On wednesday, Daron and Bagley decided to go out and take pictures in the snow. I decided to go with them. So our parking lots were completely unspoiled by contact. So Daron had the bright idea to write huge things in the snow. So as he goes about writing "cold" or "snow" or something, I went with Penis, which bagley followed with "boobs." I thought it was hilarious to write penis in the purest God-given material. But writing did not seem enough. So I drew a huge penis in the middle of the lot. I know it's immature but it was late and I was tired. Daron wouldnt take a picture cause hes meean. But he did take apicture of PenisBoobs so Ill put those up sometime soon. Anyways, the best part was the next day it was all still there cause very few people have Thursday morning classes...good times.
